Under our current IDC (on-call) contract with the UMCP, M S Engineers Inc. was tasked to study feasibility of converting existing 2nd floor general purpose classroom/lab spaces into a new Animal/Marine Biology Lab Suite for Dr. Daphne Soares. M S Engineers evaluated existing building systems (including HVAC, ATC, plumbing, sprinklers, lighting, general power, emergency power, and fire alarm systems), studied alternate building systems, and recommended cost effective solutions for MEP systems that met all applicable codes including life safety codes.
HVAC: Design of 100% fresh HVAC system with precise year round temperature/humidity as well as pressurization controls via phoenix control valves. M S Engineers also recommended sophisticated humidity and temperature controls, zone air volume control, make-up and exhaust ventilation system including fume hood exhaust system.
Plumbing: Design of air, water, gas, vacuum, and distill water systems for fish tank, new water purifier Millipore unit, biology benches, and equipment including Fume hood, alligator tank and the fish tanks.
Electrical: Design of panel loads, existing lighting, fire alarm and emergency power systems in the building. Additional design include new lighting panel to serve new energy efficient lighting and emergency power panel to serve lab equipment such as freezers, fish and alligator tanks, power racks, purifier pumps, fume hood and HVAC equipment. Also, M S Engineers designed ADA complaint fire alarm devices.
